I’d always pick the 50% off personally so I was happy to see the results of your experiment matched up. To me they are not the same since in one I can spend half the amount and just have one item whereas in the other I am forced to have an extra item that I may not want. Perhaps to push inventory the buy one get one free is better since you get rid of 2 items vs 1.
